IUMA: Angel Thugz
48th/49th Records was founded by CEO Alfhonso "Skinny" Gallmon in the summer of 1997 when he was, and still is, interested in shooting an independent movie video for the script that he wrote called "Urban Survival".
While shooting practice shots of the movie, Alfhonso began reading into the business of music producing and publishing to begin recording the soundtrack to the movie. He learned from articles in the trade magazines such: "The Source", "Vibe" and "Black Enterprise" among other books that: "whosoever owns the masters, owns the music".
That phrase in itself prompted Alfhonso to learn all that he could learn about executive producing, music publishing and how to at least get started in the music industry as an independent executive producer and publisher.
The group A.B.G. - Armed Black Guerrillas, (friends from the hood of Alfhonsos), all natives of Washington, D.C. had already formed a few years prior with their own dreams of someday having successful careers as recording artists. A.B.G. consist of Darryl Becton aka Darryl B., Bernard Stevenson aka Ty Gotti, Kendra White aka Kenny LoCo and Keith Harper aka Beef Capone.
A.B.G. were the first to hit the studio and record the first recordings for the sound track. But, as fate would have it. Things just didn't go right for the production of the movie, so Alfhonso decided to shelve the project. And instead, pore most of his energy into executive producing rap music and concentrate on forming the #1 successful, if not, most talented rap label in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area: 48th/49th Records.
With musical influences like 2Pac & the OutLawz and Scarface & the Geto Boys, A.B.G., the yin of 48th/49th Records to the Angel Thugz yang have the necessary versatile rap skill to perform on such smooth sounding tracks "When We Ride" (released August '98 on the Angel Thugz MaxiSingle) and "Valley Of Decision" (Unreleased) or a either hard thumbing beat "Friends Or Foes" (released August '98 on the Angel Thugz MaxiSingle).
The upcoming album: 48th/49th Compilation [Volume 1] will also show the various topics that the group touches on in their reality rap style. Topics like: love, the government, the end of the world, race relations, hood tales, etc.
Angel Thugz, the concept, was created by the labels CEO, which means any individual living, viewed and/or labeled as a thug, who believes in a higher power (Allah, God, etc.). Someone who does not engage in unnecassary ramdom violence. An Angel Thug is an individual who takes care of his/her own.
Angel Thugz is more than just a mere word created to, as some have said, sound similar to that of the infamous rap group Bone Thugz & Harmony. Angel Thugz (the title) was created by Ty Gotti of A.B.G. as one of the first music recordings for the soundtrack to "Urban Survival". But once the Chief Executive Officer heard the name: "Angel Thugz", his creative genius started clicking automatically with not only a group in mind called Angel Thugz, but also a concept; a way of living: Angel Thug Living!!! Angel Thugz, the rap group, natives of the Washington, D.C. area, consists of any and all solo artists from the 48th/49th label at any given time on any track. Solo artists of 48th/49th Records who form together like Voltron to become an unstoppable force of the 48th/49th label.
Solo 48th/49th artists who have recorded tracks as an Angel Thug are: Micheal Copeland bka "Mega" (U Don't Have 2 Worry), Kevin Green bka "UnforgivN" (Valley Of Decision; Unreleased), Waldo Whalinski (Valley Of Decision; Unreleased), Lucky (Armageddon; Unreleased), and Emanuel Gallmon aka "Man-U" (Valley Of Decision; Unreleased).
Angel Thugz is unique in that when the artists and their different styles of rap come together to perform on a track, 95% of the time the song becomes one the most cherished tracks with crossover appeal released to the public from the record label.
For example, the recent released track "U Don't have 2 Worry" from the Angel Thugz maxi-single, is a smooth melodic track similar in concept to 2Pacs "Dear Mama" in that it's dedicated to our moms to stop worrying about us. Quote: "So momma don't cry/But dry your eyes/Because you tried and you've succeeded". Succeeded in raising your children to be good young men and women with warm hearts and a good conscious, despite all the trials and tribulations we may have put you all through.
48th/49th Records has a mission to accomplish. With contemplative tracks like "U Don't Have 2 Worry" and others, Alfhonso Gallmon and we at 48th/49th Records hope to accomplish all our dreams and ambitions of becoming successful at any artistic endeavor we aspire to and thereby making a great difference in the city of Washington, D.C. .
